I am Chris Cobilis (b. 1979 in Perth, Australia) and I began performing live music in 1997 with guitar, samplers, tapes, toys, radios & just about anything else I could find that could make sound.
Through time, I have incorporated elements of pop music (naturally, as most indie-rockers-posing-as-improvisers) into my performances, forcibly juxtaposing indie rock and serious improvisation; one thumbing it’s nose at the other and vice versa.
My primary work is in the Australian band The Tigers and solo improvisation and composition under my own name. I have however played in several other bands from Perth, Western Australia, most recently The Sabre Tooth Tigers and Smrts.
In 2009 I contributed original compostion to the yet to be released Australian feature film Wasted On The Young, which is now finalising distribution. In addition I worked with The Scarecrow Contemporary Dance Company and M.O.V.E Theatre Group, both of Taiwan.
Since 2006 I have traveled abroad to perform in in the UK, US, Japan, Greece, France and Taiwan. Along the way I’ve performed on stage with the likes of Kueiju Lin, Kenneth Goldsmith, Awesome Color, Ikue Mori, Damo Suzuki, Jon Rose & Drawing 4-5. Name dropping is the worst, but it gives you maybe some idea of where I’m coming from.Contact: cobilis[at]gmail.com
